AKA Red Eye Armored Skink
The red-eyed armored skink, known as the red-eyed crocodile skink (Tribolonotus gracilis), is a small, dragon-like lizard from New Guinea featuring distinctive orange-red eye rings, four rows of spiny back scales, and an armored body.
Size: Grows to about 7 to 9 inches (17 to 23 cm) long at full maturity.
Appearance: Dark, prehistoric scales with a crocodile-like back and bright red-orange circles around each eye.
Habits: Shy, secretive, and most active during dawn and dusk (crepuscular). They can freeze, flatten out, or make high-pitched squeaking sounds when scared.
Lifespan: Lives for about 7 to 10 years.
Enclosure: Needs a minimum tank size of 24"L x 18"W x 18"H with plenty of hiding spots, damp leaf litter, and a shallow water area.
Humidity & Temp: Requires high humidity between 70% and 90% and cool temperatures, as they dislike excessive heat.
Diet: Eats small live insects like crickets, roaches, and earthworms, which should be dusted with calcium supplements.
