Satsuma plums are a variety of Japanese plum with a sweet, juicy flavor and dark red flesh. They are often used for fresh eating, canning, or making preserves
Satsuma plums are round or slightly flattened, with a mottled red and green skin
The flesh is firm and juicy, with a rich almond-like flavor
The fruit has a hard inedible pit that must be removed before eating
Satsuma plum trees grow best in full sun and well-drained soil
They require 300 chill hours to set fruit
They are cold hardy to USDA Zones 5-10
Watering: Consistent moisture is vital, especially during the growing season. Deep watering at the root zone encourages vigorous growth and a bountiful harvest. We recommend a minimum 2 gallons of water every single day for the first 3-4 months. During the Summer trees need to be water early in the morning and in the afternoon, twice a day!
