Add a peaceful and hardworking algae-eating fish to your freshwater aquarium with our Dwarf Sucker Catfish, commonly known as Otocinclus or Oto Catfish. These tiny catfish are known for their slender bodies, distinctive dark horizontal stripes, and excellent algae-grazing abilities, making them a popular choice for planted aquariums and peaceful community tanks.
Native to South America, Otocinclus Catfish spend much of their time grazing on soft algae and biofilm found on aquarium glass, plants, driftwood, and decorations. Their small size and gentle temperament make them especially popular among aquascaping enthusiasts looking for natural algae control without disturbing plants or other peaceful tank inhabitants.
Otocinclus thrive in mature, well-established aquariums with plenty of live plants, driftwood, hiding areas, and stable water conditions. They are social fish that do best in groups of six or more and should be housed with other peaceful community fish.
Although Otocinclus are excellent algae grazers, they require additional food to stay healthy. Their diet should include algae wafers, spirulina-based foods, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini or spinach. A well-established aquarium with natural algae and biofilm is especially important, as these fish can struggle to find enough food in newly established tanks.
